2 consecutive 1-year contract opportunity:

• 1-year contract at the University of Warwick - salary band £35,605 - £46,049

Followed by a

• 1-year contract at BCAM, Bilbao – salary band €32.939 - €37.331

This 2-year opportunity is separated into 2 consecutive 1-year contracts. You will spend first year working at the University of Warwick based at their Coventry Campus, England, and then the second year working at BCAM Bilbao, based in Bilbao, northern Spain. The successful candidate will be required to make visits to the other respective institution within each year.

As this opportunity it split into 2 consecutive 1-year contracts, the successful candidate will be required to undertake pre-work employment checks with both institutions and that terms and conditions of employment will differ between the 2 employers, as 1 contract is with University of Warwick and 1 contract is with BCAM.

To work with Prof. Filip Rindler (Warwick) and Prof. Arghir Zarnescu (BCAM Bilbao) and collaborators in the newly-established BCAM-Warwick Joint Lab on Mathematical Material Science and the ERC Project* “CONCENTRATE - Concentration Phenomena in Nonlinear PDEs and Elasto-plasticity Theory”. You will spend one year working in Warwick and then one year working at BCAM Bilbao, with visits to the respective other institution in each year.

The BCAM-Warwick Joint Lab on Mathematical Material aims to create an international cluster around Mathematical Material Science. The core objectives of this strategic partnership are the development of new models for materials science and their analysis.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in Mathematical Analysis (in particular, Nonlinear PDE Theory, Calculus of Variations or Geometric Measure Theory).

You will have excellent expertise in one of the core areas of the project, which is situated at the intersection of Nonlinear PDE Theory, the Calculus of Variations, and Geometric Measure Theory. Additionally, you will have some background in (mathematical) Continuum Mechanics or are willing to learn its elements while participating in the project. You can work effectively in a larger research group and have the ability to communicate its results to the wider research community.

PhD Status

If you are near submission of your PhD, or have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made at Research Assistant level, at the highest spinal point of pay grade 5 (£34,610 per annum).

Upon receipt of evidence confirming the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow, at the lowest spinal point of grade 6 (£35,608 per annum).
