This is an exciting opportunity to join the Elementary Particle Physics Group within the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick.  The post has a current fixed term end date of 30 September 2025, with the possibility of extension.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow on the ATLAS experiment, with the intent to work on the Phase II High Level Trigger core software and/or menus, and on physics analysis. The Warwick ATLAS group has a commitment to ATLAS trigger menu and rates, and it will be expected that the postholder will contribute to this, while also pursuing world-leading physics of their choice, however the initial focus should be the Phase II trigger upgrade.

We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.  

We are active in various areas of physics: vector boson scattering, CP violation in Higgs production, CKM measurements in top decay, searches for Higgs pair production, and BSM Higgs and exotic physics. An enthusiasm for one of these would be particularly welcome.

In addition to having strong technical skills, the ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a research team.  Excellent planning and time management skills will be required to ensure research objectives are achieved effectively.

If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure. Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure

The Elementary Particle Physics group’s activity encompasses energy frontier studies with ATLAS, flavour physics with LHCb, and neutrino studies with T2K and now DUNE & Hyper-K. Research focuses on detector development, trigger hardware/software; event simulation/reconstruction; and physics analysis.

The post will be based in the Department of Physics, a vibrant academic department with 200 academic, research, technical and professional services staff, over 800 undergraduate students and 200 postgraduate research students.
