We have two exciting opportunities for talented and motivated individuals to join the Technical Services Team supporting the Department of Chemistry's Teaching Laboratories at the University of Warwick.
Reporting to the Deputy Technical Services Manager, you will be part of a team of Senior Teaching Lab Technicians and Technical Assistants who deliver high quality technical support to staff, students and visitors in the Department of Chemistry's Teaching Laboratories.
You will have experience of the delivery of a technical service in teaching laboratories and will be required to contribute to the smooth running of the Department's Teaching Laboratories, working flexibly with staff across the department and the wider technical services team to achieve a high standard of support for staff and students.
The post involves handling chemicals which cover a range of hazards, including toxic chemicals and corrosives, as well as cryogens as examples. There may also be compressed gas cylinders or heavy items to move (i.e. manual handling). This is an active lab role where you would be expected to be on your feet for the majority of the day.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden and further develop their skills in an academic setting, while gaining insight into a growing and strategically important department at the University of Warwick.
Success in this role will require substantial technical knowledge, ideally within an HE environment, excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, a desire to work collaboratively to deadlines as part of a high performing team and an ability to work independently and innovatively to seek solutions in a busy student-focussed environment.
Typical duties include setting-up experiments and laboratory equipment, maintaining core infrastructure and facilities, reorganisation of laboratory space, carrying out stock checks, drafting risk assessments/SOP’s, handling and disposing of chemicals safely.
You will have a good honours degree in a related science (ideally Chemistry), be highly organised and have experience of and an up-to-date working knowledge of COSHH regulations, it would be desirable if you possess or are working toward an appropriate H&S qualification such as NEBOSH general certificate.
